Pfarrkirche zum Heiligen Leonhard (Parish Church)

The Parish Church of S. Leonardo was dedicated to Saint Leonhard in 1116. Worth seeing are the new gothic altar, the white marble christening stone and the precious wall paintings above the vestry door.
French Graveyard
1200 French soldiers came over the JaufenPass to St Leonhard on 17th November 1809 after the slaughter at Berg Isel. The locals fought against them until 22nd November when the French surrendered. As well as 22 locals, 230 French also died in the slaughter and were buried in a piece of ground on the west side of the village.

Sandwirt

Sandwirt is the birth place of the Tyrolean freedom fighter Andreas Hofer. Today it is a guesthouse and the farmer’s parlour is particularly worth seeing.
St. Hippolyt Glaiten
This 14th century chapel is decorated with precious frescoes, but unfortunately you are not able to enter it. The wall paintings contain scenes from the life of Saint Hippolytus and were painted in 1380.
Pfistrad
The renovated building in Hochtal Pfistrad is a living mountain hut museum. It is most probably the highest wooden hut in South Tyrol and contains remnants from medieval living and mountain farming. It is open in the summer months and the walk there will take about one and a half hours.
