Summer hikings of the Alta Val Passiria

  • Imstalm - Kreuzjoch - Schneidalm

Starting at the car park in Plan, go down to the river, across the bridge and then follow the track to the first bend (paths 2). Carry on along the track up to the last farm Oberstein. From here the path goes north west first around corners and then up a very steep path to the mountain pastures of "Auf Imest" and then on further across the pastures to the Hochfläche (path 2).

From the flat pastures the path goes up to the Imstalm and then up a steep slope to another mountain pasture. Continue in the valley, past the Focknlacke (a shallow lake) and on to Kreuzjoch. The last part of the path is rather exposed (path 6b).
First go west from Kreuzjoch continuing in the valley and descend for a short time (path 6b) and turn right and carry on along the relatively flat path to Scheidalm (path 47). First right over the slope and then left going out of the valley crossing several valleys and streams back to Plan (path 6a).

    Starting point: Plan
    End: Plan
    Length: 11 km
    Time: approx. 5 hours

  • Seeber Alm - Seeber See - Oberglaneggalm

Starting at the Seeber car park (to reach the car park, turn left at km 22 on the Timmelsjoch Road and follow the track for about 500 m), go in the valley on the track to Seeber Alm.

From the Seeber Alm (don’t cross the stream) carry on up the valley until it opens up. Go up the slope on the right hand side of the hill in the middle of the valley until you reach a boggy area and Lake Seeber. There are many places to rest around the side of the lake. If you want to walk round the lake you will have to make a detour on the south side between the hill and the mountainside so as not to land in the bog.
Carry on up the left hand side of the mountain as if you were walking out of the valley. It is very steep at first, but flattens out (path 44a).

Walk from the peak through several small valleys down to the Oberglaneggalm (path 44a) and then on the track towards the Timmelsjoch Road and right down the slope until you reach the lower track and then the Seeber car park (path 44a).

Starting point: Seeber Alm car park
    End: Seeber Alm car park
    Length: 8 km
    Time: approx. 3 hours
  • Matatzspitze - Waalweg - Ulfasalm

Starting at the car park in Ulfas, walk in a southerly direction, past Kratzegg Hof, over a stream and then on up the valley. Cross the bridge and continue up the valley until you come to Ulfasalm. If you wish you can take the very steep short cut up the side of the slope to the Ulfasalm.

Continue diagonally along the slope above the mountain hut and after a bend, climb up further, cross path number 3 and on up to the foot of the Matatzspitze. From here you can climb up to the peak (path number 7).
From the Matatzspitze continue up and down along the ridge of the mountain at first through meadows and then later through woods to the Waaler Hütte am Pfarrer (path number 7).
From here first go left around the ridge and then through the woods back to the Ulfasalm (path 4b). You will cross a track once, and once you must leave the irrigation canal and climb up a path only to return to the canal a bit further along. This part of the canal is impassable. Carry on down the track back to the car park at Ulfas.

    Starting point: Car park Ulfas
    End: Car park Ulfas
    Length: 13km
    Time: approx. 4.5 hours
