History and tradition in the Val Passiria

  • History

    History Val Passiria
The history of this nature spoilt valley is as old as mankind. This is shown by the places of worship that can be found in the hamlet of Glaiten and at the "Silberhütt Höhe" above Stulles. The valley was most certainly inhabited much earlier. At the time of the Roman conquests, a pathway was built from Maia (near Merano) through the valley and over the Passo Giovo to Vipiteno (Vipitenum). The valley profited from the commercial route, and not only farms blossomed, but also commerce and gastronomy.

  • Traditions

    Tradition Val Passiria
Traditions have both a past and a future

Of course people in the Val Passiria don’t walk around in their traditional costumes every day of the week. They are meant to be worn on festive days. Tradition is lived as a personal feeling here, and this can be seen in every day life, especially on the remote mountain farms
